August 2019

We are proud to announce that we have been awarded the 2019 WISE Award for our contribution to tackling global education issues. WISE (World Innovation Summit for Education) recognises projects that are addressing education challenges in an innovative way. We are thrilled to be selected by an international panel of education experts as one of the top six projects worldwide.

We are honoured to receive this award, which recognises the dedication of our teams across Cambodia, Myanmar and Nepal. It also highlights the commitment of the indigenous and ethnic-minority communities with whom we work to the education of their children and their determination to build a better life. We are incredibly grateful to our network of supporters, without whom we would be unable to reach this stage of global recognition.

I am immensely proud and bursting with excitement,” said UWS Cambodia Country Director, Nan Sitha. “Twelve years ago we had an improbable dream that has grown into the organisation that we see today. UWS transforms the lives of tens of thousands of marginalised children giving them an education and a more secure future. It is deeply humbling and emotional to receive the WISE award and we hope it will serve as a springboard to further success and an inspiration to others. I cannot thank my team enough for the dedication and hard work that has made the dream a reality.

About the WISE Awards

WISE was established by the Qatar Foundation in 2009 to identify and promote education solutions. Each year, the WISE Awards recognise and promote six successful innovative projects that are addressing global educational challenges. Since 2009, WISE has received more than 3,000 applications from over 150 countries.

These projects represent a growing resource of expertise and educational practice. Today the WISE Awards network comprises pioneering projects that are bringing positive change to societies and communities.
