Latest Floods in Cambodia: what we're doing August 2018 The monsoon season is a challenge we tackle every year. However, Northern Cambodia is facing a particularly tough season following the collapse of the Xe-Namnoy dam in neighbouring Laos at the end of July. We build UWS schools above ground-level to withstand annual monsoon floods. The safety of our students and teachers is a priority, and our team in Stung Treng province are working to guarantee that any UWS communities affected by this year's flooding have our support (pictured). Often located on the banks of a river, the remote villages we work with are particularly vulnerable to this sort of incident. Heavy monsoon rains regularly disrupt access to towns and services, leaving communities even more isolated. The UWS model is designed to tackle this. We build schools in the heart of communities, providing education and support whatever the weather. As we continue to monitor the situation in Northern Cambodia closely, our teams will be visiting the worst-hit areas to ensure staff, students and their families are safe.
